Saladita, Mexico

We like to call our Saladita Surf Adventure “Rancho Relaxo!” Surf. Eat. Sleep. Reset. Definitely one of the premier surf destinations in Mexico, this wonderfully long left hand point break is another surf dream come true! Kristy discovered Playa La Saladita in 2001, on an early scouting mission. At that time, there was one little palapa located strategically at the end of the wave, selling food. You could ride a single wave all the way from the outside peak and step off onto the beach right at that one restaurant to order lunch. She instantly fell in love.

Zihuatanejo is hands down her favorite area to surf in Mexico, so in 2009, when Wildcoast, an organization dedicated to ocean and coastal conservation, asked if Siren Surf Adventures wanted to get involved with the turtle sanctuaries in the area, they quickly replied with a resounding “Yes!” Since then, Kristy and Coach Cat have worked within the community there not only teaching the young locals about surfing and surf culture, they have also started a small organic farm called Saladita Farm Co. which they utilize in every Siren Surf Adventures meal. From the Farm to the Surf!

Trip insurance: We require that you purchase trip insurance to cover the cost of your adventure and travel, and provide proof at the time of booking.

Your perfect Mexican surf adventure

Siren Surf Adventure’s home base is conveniently located just a short walk away from the magnificent left-hand point break. To help you best enjoy your surf vacation, Kristy and Cat provide an excellent V.I.P. service in a fun, carefree, no-pressure environment in which surfers of ANY ability can take their surfing to the next level. The group sizes are small, with 4 guests max per retreat in order to create an intimate experience that guarantees that you get the most time with these 2 ladies in and out of the water. No other surf experience can compare. The small group size is what sets Siren Surf Adventures apart from the rest. Surfing is a rewarding challenge, and even if you have never set foot on a surfboard before, Kristy and Cat will give you the direction, expertise, and confidence you need to Answer the Call of the Ocean.

What is Included in your V.I.P Surf Experience
Your surf experience begins with our reliable drivers that provide ground transportation to and from the airport on official retreat dates. Your typical Mexico surf trip day begins with coffee, teas, fresh local and/or organic fruits along with an amazing Mexican breakfast overlooking the line-up from the patio of your ocean front villa. Then it is time for surf. Kristy and Cat always try to utilize the best tides and conditions so exact surf times vary from day-to-day, but don’t worry, you will receive at least 2 hours, possibly more, of surf coaching in the water during the day. Depending on the wind, a sunset surf session is always a possibility. The learning doesn’t end once you’re dry, however, as your coaches discuss turning technique, cross-stepping and nose-riding, fins, boards, as well as provide video analysis daily. You will receive 1 massage and may also visit the natural hot springs nearby or take a road trip to a neighboring town to do some local shopping. Dinners consist of Mexican specialties prepared by Lucia the in-house chef. Food is also a big part of your surf experience and all of the food is either grown on the Siren Surf Adventure Farm at Saladita Farm Co. or is local and/or organic. Say NO to GMO foods! At night you can either enjoy a movie theater under the stars to watch surf flicks or sit on the beach for an old-school beach fire all the whilst sipping on Kristy’s famous margaritas! Beer is also included.

Reviews

Went to Surf Camp in Saladita, Mexico and will definitely go to surf camp again to be taught by Kristy and Cat. Not only are they patient and skillful teachers, but they are so much fun! The accommodations are beautiful and come with a cook who whips up delicious local fare. I can’t say enough about Kristy and Cat and how much I enjoyed surfing and hanging out with them. They will teach you how to surf and have fun doing it. I am so grateful to them! Miss them already. ~ Liz, 2016

Our group of six went to the Chuparosa location in La Saladita for a week. Most of us were beginners, but a couple surfed a bit. They started us all off with basics of safe surfing and surfing etiquette, which I didn’t know at all. They were enthusiastic, patient and so, so funny. They seemed very respected by the other surfers in the area, locals and tourists alike. The accommodations are very comfortable and nice, right on the beach, beautiful views. They provide a cook who cooked healthy, delicious breakfasts and dinners. We often went to local places for lunch, a couple times for dinner. You could surf morning and afternoon, or just hang out in the afternoon, your choice. The location has different size waves in different places– ideal for different levels. Kristy and Cat actually made the trip with their personalities, expertise, professionalism and wit. ~ Debra, 2015

Siren Surf camp at La Chuparosa is fantastic! We have been to other surf-camps as well and our experience in Mexico more than matched the previous ones. Why? So many reasons: Kristy and Cat are unmatched in their warmth and enthusiasm as hosts and coaches. They spend ALL their time in the water making sure students get what they want/need out of the week-our surf learning curve shot skyward. Back at the house, they go out of their way to provide an unforgettable experience including awesome meals at some local spots, Kristy’s unique Margharita bar, Cat’s surf-history tales, surf films, and loads of laughter. Lucia’s cooking is perfect-hearty, flavourful and varied. The grounds, house and pool are absolutely beautiful. All the house staff are so friendly, as of course is Dragon (the dog). We couldn’t have asked for a better week and will keep recommending Siren Surf to anyone who’ll listen. Go there!! ~ Pete ‘n Carla, 2014

I am an “outsider” reviewing these gals and the surf camp. I have watched Kristy and Cat while surfing at La Saladita and they provide one of the best surf guides/coaching that I have ever seen. They spend a lot of time with every surfer and offer advice, encouragement and support that you just don’t see often. They manage to be low key and not invasive of a surf spot. I have nothing but good things to say about them. Great attitude, enthusiasm and skill. Both of these gals rip, and I mean surf with finesse and grace. No one walks the nose like Kristy and makes it look so darned easy. Spend the money and learn all you can with them as it is worth every penny. I may have to check out their Costa Rica trips as I can only imagine how wonderful that will be. Just being around their smiling selves is enough to make me surf better. Thanks for being so stoked and see you in the water.
~ Mattie, 2014

I had an awesome time in Mexico! Kristy and Cat are amazing hosts who really make you feel welcome, especially when you are travelling solo. I couldn’t have asked for anything more, the accommodation, the surf, the food was all perfect. I only wish I could have stayed longer. Hope to do more trips with the girls in the future. Thanks guys for getting my surfing back on track, the coaching was spot on and it couldn’t be in a better location. Love that left! ~ Marissa, 2013

Kristy and Cat are the best surf coaches I’ve ever met. When you’re first starting out, Kristy paddles right next to you, pushing you to develop your paddle strength and then tells you when to pop up and make your turn. If you should fall, she’s right there checking on you. I started surfing at 41 and in only a few years I’ve acquired wave knowledge and technique that takes a decade to understand. The house in Mexico is AMAZING. A total VIP experience, it’s right on the beach, with beautiful bedrooms and balconies and we had our own private chef. And pool, for a post surf dip. They know all the fun dinner spots, so we’d pile into the blue “boca”, VW bug and have great authentic Mexican. I’m a repeat customer because I love this spot, a perfect left handed point break, and love what I learn from the ladies. ~ Anna, 2013

Kristy and Cat really have the surf camp experience dialed in! I’ve been on the Hawaii trip and the Mexico trip and both are the perfect balance of surfing, exploring, relaxing, laughs and eating! The Mexico camp is super chill and relaxing, and the surf is mellow and FUN! And the accommodations are really beautiful and comfortable. Why you should go: 1. You’ll actually learn to surf in a safe, no-pressure environment. 2. You’ll learn good technique, proper etiquette and history. 3. Amazing fresh, local food prepared right at the house. 4. You’ll unplug from the rest of the world and get back to simplicity. I can’t say enough about my experience. I was in Mex last January with them and I’m planning on going back this winter too. ~ Anne, 2012

I learned so much from surfing at the Mexico retreat! The waves peel perfectly, which makes it so much easier to practice any skills you want to work on. Kristy and Cat are great teachers and coaches. They have the skills and knowledge to really help you learn and improve. They are very patient and create a fun, relaxed environment for everyone. I love that the accommodations are right on the beach. You can do your surf check from the window of your room in the morning, and it’s such a luxury to be able to walk two minutes with your board and paddle out. No loading gear and driving required! The rooms were bright and airy with awesome views of the ocean. The meals prepared at the house were fresh and healthy, and there’s a good selection of restaurants in the nearby towns. I also enjoyed the signature cocktail of the retreat: Kristy’s famous Margarita! Overall, great waves, great people, and great times. I can’t wait to go back! ~ Koto, 2012

This year started off with a bang at your Mexico surf camp. A lot of people mentioned safety before I even departed Austin, but I wan’t concerned. I was greeted at the airport by Cat and we headed to Chuparosa. Our surf safari accommodations were spectacular! The ocean views from my bedroom were breathtaking and the outdoor patio was a great place to relax in the evenings. This location is special because we didn’t have to drive or walk far to catch waves. I loved that you could just grab your board and walk a few 100 yards and start catching waves. Kristy and Cat also introduced us to all the locals and showed us the best places to eat in this small, quant village. I hadn’t surfed in about 3 years so I was nervous if I’d even be able to catch waves again. By day two I was off the foam board and on a big kid board. These two ladies have the patience of saints and truly understand how to teach women how to surf. I can’t imagine ever wanting to go to another surf camp Mexico. ~ Carie, 2012

Supporting the Community & Environment

We believe strongly in supporting our local communities and causes that are close to our hearts. These are the places we call home and we want to have a positive relationship with our neighbors and the environment.

The Azulita Project
Kristy and Cat are proud to work with and support the Azulita Project as they have been an integral part of cleaning up the beaches and villages where they love to surf in Mexico. The Azulita Project has built and sustains a plastic recycling center which recycles over 10 tons of plastic each month and also provides environmental youth programs within the local schools to teach about conservation and organic farming. Co-founder of the Azulita Project and legendary folk hero artist Pato, has made it his passion to educate farmers throughout Mexico, about how to make organic composts, fertilizers, and pesticides. He created the Siren Surf Adventures logo and hand prints all our hats and shirts. By supporting his art we are able to be apart of funding this project that is so important to this area. For more information or to make a donation check out to the Azulita Project at www.azulitaproject.org
All proceeds from soft goods sold goes directly to Pato in order for him to continue his work.

Wildcoast
When Wildcoast, an organization dedicated to ocean and coastal conservation, asked if we wanted to get involved with the turtle sanctuaries in the area, we quickly replied with a resounding “Yes!”

Together, we have worked with Wildcoast to initiate an inspirational program so our guests can enjoy a variety of opportunities, during their surf safari as well as interact with the native wildlife and the local community. As surfers that enjoy clean water, live coral reefs, and sea life aplenty, we are happy to help and proud to invite you and your loved ones to Answer the Call of the Ocean on our Zihuatanejo, Mexico surf safari.
